Amrito Cross
Amrito Cross was born in England. First introduced to yoga at the age of six by a family friend visiting from India, Amrito moved to India at the age of fourteen and briefly studied at Desikachar’s yoga school in Madras. She has subsequently studied with various teachers including Doug Swenson and Jonny Kest with whom she completed yoga teacher training programs. She has been teaching yoga and meditation full time since 1998. For the last several years, Amrito’s practice and teaching have been greatly influenced by the Anusara workshops she has attended with such teachers as Desiree Rumbaugh, Noah Maze’, and Sianna Sherman, including a six-month immersion with Noah and Sianna. Her background in bodywork and meditation is reflected in the sensitivity and compassion with which she teaches. She brings to the classroom a unique way of communicating yoga’s transferable skills – helping students apply the lessons of asana practice to ‘off-mat’ practice. Amrito also teaches classes in intuition development, meditation, working consciously with energy, and self-mastery. She is a certified Master Spirit Coach®, working one-on-one with clients by phone to facilitate their empowerment and blossoming. She uses intuition to support them in finding real connection with the Divine and getting in touch with their Spirit’s Purpose so they can allow their true gifts to shine through. Amrito can be reached at 530-318-2693 or amrito@sbcglobal.net.

Y oga has been threading its way through my life since I was 20 years old. Around the same time, began the other sacred thread, Tibetan Buddhism. These central themes suspiciously danced around each other for years, until my Teachers, Geshe Michael Roach and Lama Christie McNally formally re-united the Yoga Lineages of India and Tibet in the Tibetan Heart Yoga System. The third central braid in this dance is my family. The ancient teachings of yoga guide us to wholeness, love and freedom. Family life is where the ‘rubber meets the road.’ Ideologies are easy to adopt, they are more difficult to embody. This sacred trio of the Buddha Dharma, Yoga and Loved Ones are patiently coaxing me towards Happiness. My primary influence in the world of Yoga is Richard Freeman. To me, he is the embodiment of the path of hatha yoga to raja yoga- using the energies of the body to transform the mind. My holy Lamas, Geshe Michael Roach, Christie McNally, Winston, and Sumati Marut continue with immaculate patience, love and wisdom, to guide me onward. I am certified in Tibetan Heart Yoga Series 1 through 8, as well as in all the Yoga Studies Institute Classics courses: Yoga Sutra, Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Bhagavad Gita. I completed a 200 hour Teacher Intensive with Richard Freeman in 2008 and some advanced intensives since then. My classes are Tibetan Heart Yoga inspired, active Vinyasa with primary focus given to breath and radical transformation of the heart.

Lorilyn Haubrich
"The poses bring a feeling of well being that stays with you. They do this through a balance of effort and relaxation; and through endless forms of balanced meditation." ~ Master Patanjali, The Yoga Sutras II.46-47. I w alked into my first Yoga class in South Lake Tahoe over 15 years ago, and like so many others before me my heart began to open and I started to ask questions. Through the patient grace of my teachers, H.H. The Dalai Lama, Geshe Michael Roach, Lama Christie McNally, Lama Sumati Marut, Geshe Lobsang Tsultrim and the loving support of Brandy Davis and David Fishman, I began teaching a little over 5 years ago. This gave me the opportunity and profound honor to grow and share this gift of Yoga with others. My teaching style draws strongly from Sri. T. Krishnamacharya and Mahayana Buddhism, incorporating inner and outer methods into a playful Vinyasa flow accessible to all levels. My asana training is in Tibetan Heart, Forest, Ashtanga and Anusara Yoga. I have a strong and diverse background in health, alternative and natural medicines, personal training, group exercise, massage, and Flower Remedy Therapy. I feel this enables me to offer a educated, holistic approach to life as Yoga. My wish is to offer you a safe place to breathe and open your heart by moving your body. I also wish for you the happiness that comes from mindful breathing and dedication, the precious opportunity to connect with your own limitless potential.
Whitney Hansen-Hiraki
As I find myself in South Lake Tahoe again, I am so joyous to be back at Mountain Yoga! Originally inspired to follow the yogic path here at Mountain Yoga, I packed my bags and left for India 6 years ago. After completing 500 hrs of training in the Sivananda tradition, sitting under the Bodhi tree and housing something fun in my intestinal tract...it was time to move on. Since then I've continued to study, practice, travel, teach and play. Working as a whitewater rafting guide has given me the gift to do all these things. Most memorable was time spent in Nepal teaching Nepali woman how to raft and kayak as a profession. Hoping to share the importance of self-care in a field of physical work, we practiced yoga asanas and teamwork. In between seasons, I have completed courses in Pranassage (a yogic massage), Holistic Massage Therapy and Jin Shin Jyutsu Acupressure. Over the years, my teaching style has evolved into a fusion of exploration and tradition through the miracle of breath. Spending last winter at Plum Village created the inspiration to combine Thich Nhat Hanh's mindfulness meditation with yoga practice. Where do you find harmony? As a strong advocate of a daily morning practice, which you can carry into the day, I encourage you to enjoy a morning class. See you there! Audrey Branch
Audrey embodies the spirit of Tahoe community: her passions include many fun outdoor activities, family time with her two children, and combining both is especially high on her list of priorities. Audrey began practicing yoga in 2004. In October, 2009, she received her teacher training from the White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara, CA. Using an adaptive teaching style, Audrey conveys how yoga can help unite body, mind and spirit through breath and awareness, discover a place of serenity, and empower the individual. She loves to inspire confidence in those who might otherwise be intimidated by the yoga experience. Audrey welcomes students of all levels. She encourages the use of props and incorporates the component of playfulness into her classes, making yoga safe and fun! Audrey finds empowerment and inspiration in the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, customs of Native Americans, writings of Eckhart Tolle, her White Lotus teachers Ganga White and Tracey Rich and on the top of her list her two children.
Kathey Merten
Kathey teaches Hatha Yoga classes that are greatly influenced by her current Anusara Yoga Teacher Training and practice. A daily practitioner, Kathey has also extensively studied Ashtanga Yoga as well as Iyengar and Yin Yoga. She believes in the inner power, strength, kindness, peace and innate connection to nature that yoga opens up in the body, mind and spirit. Kathey grew up in Milwaukee, WI and moved to Winona, MN to study Biology on the Mississippi River. She began her studies of yoga in 1998 at the Iyengar Yoga Center in Winona; later moving to Boulder, CO to study Ashtanga Yoga at the Yoga Workshop and attend the Boulder College of Massage Therapy. As a bodyworker inspired by her yoga practice, Kathey traveled to Thailand to study Thai Yoga Massage in 2004. Kathey's practice is influenced by many instructors; Sianna Sherman, Kenny Graham, Chris Wallis, Douglas Brooks, David Swenson, Richard Freeman, Noah Maze, Tara Judelle, Marc Holzman, Shiva Rea and Felicia Tomasko. Kathey's current studies and teaching focus on proper alignment and a positive attitude; for a safe, deep and playful practice. She believes that the key to happiness and longevity is flexibility and agility of the body and mind, and that our yoga mat becomes a place to cultivate these skills. Kathey's favorite poses are Urdhva Dhanurasana (upward facing bow) because of the open-heartedness the backbend inspires and Pincha Mayurasana (feather of a peacock) because of its strength and poise.
Missa Woodliff
Missa has been living in Tahoe since 2004. She is a Certified Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Facilitator. She received her training through Larry Schultz at "It's Yoga" in San Francisco, California. "I don't know if I found yoga or if yoga found me." After a traumatic snowboard accident that left me with two broken legs and in a wheel chair for close to two years, my mind, body and spirit were in need of motion, challenge, and the release from past "what if's" or any future expectation. I was in need of something totally new and different. There are many variations of Yoga, all unique and different, yet they all encompass the same notion, to bring "union". I am honored to be a facilitator of the practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga at Mt. yoga. Ashtanga Vinyasa encompasses mind body union; a sequence of poses that link breath and movement. In each class my desire is to bring increased knowledge of body awareness, strength, balance and flexibility, both physically and mentally through the ease of breath and flow of movement. All classes can be modified for the individual; all styles and levels are welcome.
Brock Axthelm
Hi, my name is Brock Axthelm. I was born in Nebraska and raised in South Dakota. I graduated from the University of Idaho in the Landscape Architecture Design program. Now I am living the dream in South Lake Tahoe in pursuit of my passions working as a Landscape architect, Climbing Arborist and teaching Yoga. I have been practicing a mixed Vinyasa flow style of yoga for 5 years now and was trained through the Yoga Fit system. I taught at the University of Idaho for the past year having a fun up-beat class, full of good energy and laughter. I have been working for the Yoga Journal Magazine under their work exchange program at the annual Yoga Journal Conferences. This great opportunity and experience has allowed me to practice with world renowned master yogis inspiring and expanding my knowledge of yoga, while increasing my experience in a large variety of yoga styles. My main influences come from Rusty Wells, Barnon Baptiste, Ana Forest and many other wonderful yoga teachers around the world! Yoga to me is a way of life. Through my classes I encourage the students to build a bond with their mind, body and spirit, while linking their breath with their movement, throughout their practice and everyday life. I feel Yoga is not only about getting a great work out, but it is most importantly about working on your mind and body, building focus, discipline, and courage. Focusing on self-improvement and self acceptance allows one to dig deeper within ourselves, which in return motivates the sharing of life’s energy with the community and world. Power Vinyasa Yoga is a great way to detoxify your organs and body, while enjoying a vigorous core building workout.
Alli Meetze
Alli’s classes are Shiva Rea inspired Prana Vinyasa Flow. The practice cultivates both inner and outer strength and fluidity. Prana Vinyasa Flow uses both skill and intuition to explore creative asana sequences linking movement with breath.
